SAFER
SAFER
Safe Access to Facilities and Essential Resources
Introduction
The goal of SAFER is to aid in public health and safety by creating a global directory of businesses, schools, medical providers, and other facilities committed to addressing airborne diseases and global health challenges. Initially focused on COVID-19, the platform will evolve to include entities that proactively implement rigorous safety measures and adapt to emerging pathogens and clean air technologies and standards. By facilitating access to trusted providers and facilities, SAFER empowers individuals and communities to make informed decisions while fostering a culture of continuous education and precautionary practices across sectors. It also motivates businesses to adopt standards.
Specific Aims
- Develop a cost-efficient, user-friendly platform to list and verify businesses, schools, medical providers, and other facilities committed to clean air, airborne disease awareness and safety protocols involving both.
- Implement a streamlined workflow to vet user-submitted listings, ensuring data accuracy and reliability within budget constraints.
- Provide basic search capabilities and filters for users to locate trusted facilities globally, in their specific areas, with the resources they are looking for.
- Partner with public health organizations, NGOs, and industry leaders to enhance credibility and reach.
- Educate users and facilities on evolving global health challenges and necessary precautionary measures.
Volunteer Needs
We’re currently looking for volunteers in the following areas:
- People who can call and vet businesses and organizations.
- People who can organize spreadsheets, look up URLs and find addresses, locations, download images, etc.
- Website/Wordpress developers
Features:
- When this project is released, we intend to have over 10,000 entries worldwide drawn from nearly twenty other maps, websites, and documents.
- To start with, most of the entries will be in the U.S. but we’ll also have entries for Canada, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and the Netherlands. Later on, we intend to have entries for every country around the globe.
- Users will be able to search for entries by keyword, category, or map.
- Each entry will include the entity’s name, address, map with their location, business hours, and COVID precautions they practice.
- COVID precautions will include “always masking”, “masks required”, “mask on request”, “mask on specific days”, “vaccine required”, or whatever other precautions we’re able to confirm
- Users will be able to submit ratings for each entity on service, location, value for money, and cleanliness, and they’ll be able to submit reviews
- Later on, we intend to make it possible for users to login and save entities to a bookmarks list
- Also later on, we hope to institute a badge system where we’ll award badges based on each entity’s COVID-safe practice, and businesses will be able to display these badges on their websites and other media

Resources:
We’ve gathered information from dozens of sites that list COVID-safe organizations and businesses, but typically these are for specific geographic areas or for specific types of public spaces. We have attempted to contact the owner of each of these sites and been granted permission to include their data in our global SAFER project, or we attempted but were unable to contact them. If you are the owner of one of these sites and you have a question, or do not want your data included, contact us at info@publichealthactionnetwork.org.
